On the lower level of Grand Central Terminal, just outside the Oyster Bar, the ramps down from the Main Concourse meet beneath a low, vaulted archway faced in Guastavino tile. Stand in one corner of that archway, face the wall and speak softly. Someone standing in the diagonally opposite corner, with commuters passing between you, will hear you clearly. The curved tile carries the voice up and over the arch from one side to the other. The vault sits under the pedestrian bridge that links Vanderbilt Hall to the Main Concourse, and it has been there since the terminal opened in 1913. Official guided tours of the terminal make a point of stopping here.
